Bringing Your Smile Back to Life
If you are self-conscious because you have teeth missing, have dentures that are not comfortable or do not want good tooth structure removed for a bridge, dental implants may be the option for you.
Missing teeth can cause problems other than an undesirable cosmetic appearance. Neighboring teeth can drift and shift causing an unbalanced bite; the bone can recede in the area of the missing teeth; the gap between the teeth can widen; and the missing teeth can cause increased biting stress on the other teeth.
A dental implant is an ideal solution for missing teeth and is more popular today than dentures or fixed bridges because it replaces both the teeth and the teeth’s roots for a permanent replacement that feels and acts just like natural teeth. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, made of titanium. We place the implant in your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. It is a permanent fixture in your mouth so it offers excellent long-term results. An implant also helps to preserve healthy teeth. It will not affect the neighboring teeth.
To place the implant, we open the gum and drill a small hole in the bone for the titanium cylinder. During the procedure you will not feel pain. Over the next few months, the implant fuses with the bone. When the fusion is complete, we attach a post to the cylinder and a realistic artificial tooth to the implant post. The result is beautiful porcelain replacement teeth to match and complement your surrounding teeth. The tooth or teeth that can withstand full biting strength so that you can eat the foods you want without worry.
